Remove Photo Metadata (EXIF, GPS)
Check what information is stored in your photo and remove private metadata before sharing it.
What photo metadata is
Photo metadata is information stored alongside the encoded image. EXIF can include camera information, capture date, orientation and exposure settings. Some images also include GPS coordinates, editing software, copyright, descriptions, XMP information and color profiles.
Why remove metadata
Removing embedded GPS or capture details can reduce unintended information sharing and create a cleaner copy before publishing. Metadata is not always sensitive, and you can review readable fields before choosing what to remove.
Does SimpleFileFix upload my photo?
No. This tool processes supported photos locally in your browser. The photo and generated copy are not uploaded.
Does metadata removal reduce image quality?
For supported JPEG, PNG and WebP files, SimpleFileFix edits metadata segments or chunks in the encoded file instead of recompressing the pixels. It keeps color profile information where practical and retains only EXIF orientation when needed to preserve the displayed rotation. JPEG GPS-only cleanup clears the GPS directory and values; embedded XMP location metadata is removed as a complete XMP block.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove GPS location from a photo?
Choose the photo and select Remove GPS Only. SimpleFileFix clears recognized GPS fields from the file and checks the cleaned output again.
What information can EXIF metadata contain?
EXIF can include camera make and model, capture date, exposure details, orientation, software, and sometimes GPS coordinates.
Does removing EXIF reduce photo quality?
JPEG, PNG, and WebP metadata blocks are removed from the encoded file without recompressing image pixels. Color profiles are retained where they help preserve appearance.
Can SimpleFileFix see my photo?
No. The image is read and processed in your browser. SimpleFileFix does not upload the photo or its metadata.
Does this remove visible location information?
No. Metadata removal does not remove visible text, watermarks, signs, faces, or location clues in image pixels.
